"Experience University"

College is ridiculous. Simple as that. What happened to the days where we learned to our jobs by studying those who actually did them. Since when do you need biology to become a business person or statistics to become a writer? Learning in the classroom does not work as well as learning something hands on. Teachers these days depend on technology to teach their classes anyway. The websites provided with the textbooks allow teachers to read aloud already written slides, give already written and self-grading homework assignments, and already written exams with scantrons. Talking aloud, practically from a book, is not teaching! If these students passed high school (which obviously they have) they already know how to read to themselves.

How great would it be to create a university based on experience? One where the teachers have actually had years of experience working in the field in which you are studying? And on top of that, they show you how to do your job?

If you aren't understanding what I am getting at, let me paint a picture for you. You want to be a journalist. You apply to "Experience University" with your SAT scores, your high school transcripts, a nicely written "expose" on the war in Iraq, and a recommendation letter from the ENGLISH department at your high school. You are accepted base upon your recommendation, grades and scores in relevant classes, and your extracurricular activities in your field (i.e. school newspaper). Now that you are accepted you enter on your first day and report to your major's building. In this particular building you are working for a newspaper. You start off making copies and reading older students works. Then your sophomore year you get to become a littler more interactive, and so on.

In this fashion you would be able to become exactly what every employee wants... an educated college graduate WITH experience. Way to knock a few years off climbing the corporate ladder!

Okay, so if you know anything about me you know that I complain. I find things about this world that bother me and what bothers me most is the fact that a 22 yr. old girl can not, on her own, make any real difference with these issues. This being said I invite anyone who has a comment, on this or any of my crazy ideas, to let me know how you feel!
